Starting Your Home Gym
So you want to start a home gym? What a hot topic in last few years. COVID-19 really put a damper getting out of our house and going to the gym. What a hassle. We don’t want to go outside, get cold, sit in traffic, AND potentially have to talk to people just to workout. In comes the home gym.
This comes from a previous interview I had with the Wall Street Journal - See full article HERE
Below I am going to list 5 cost efficient items to start the home gym building process. These items are things that you can easily purchase for under $50 on Amazon.
Pull Up Bar (Door-way)
Having a pull up bar is a great way to build upper body strength in the back and in the biceps. You get a lot of band for you buck with a pull up bar.
Stability Ball
Having a stability ball increases your workout exercise bank. There are so many different exercises that you are able to do with this ball that it adds a great variety to your workouts.
Kettlebell
Buying one moderate weighted kettlebell will help you build strength in your whole body. You will be able to do multiple variations of squats, lunges, carries, and presses. Your options are endless and if I had $40 to spend on exercise equipment, this is what I would buy. My fave.
Foam Roller
Having a foam roller adds a nice recovery piece to your workouts. Being able self massage with the roller really just tops off your workouts. You can also get creative with foam rollers if you have an experienced coach.
Medicine Ball
Another very versatile piece of equipment - this is something you can throw, slam, or hold while doing lower body strengthening. Gain power, explosiveness, and use it for strength. Big bang for your buck.
These are a few items that are the barrier to entry for beginners. Some things you can go with or without depending on the kind of training you like to do. If you are more experienced and have the resources, I would say next would be a set of DBs or powerblocks (compact DBs that can change weight), a bench, then a barbell and weights.
